An 18th century Chinese vase found in attic sells for $19 million
According to Sotheby’s a vase dated back to the Qing Dynasty in China found in a French family’s attic sold for nearly $19 million dollars at an auction in Paris.
The vase, sold by Sotheby’s, went for 20 times the asking price. The art dealer says it was the highest price ever paid for a single item sold by Sotheby’s in France.
The Chinese vase was discovered in a shoebox in an attic mixed with other inherited items. The French family decided to take the vase to the auctioneer.
Sotheby’s says they were surprised to see the well-preserved vase, and believe it was made for an emperor of the Qing Dynasty.
