Animal Blessing brings Tibetan monks to Carlsbad

Saturday, an animal blessing took place for the first time at the San Diego Wildlife Center in Carlsbad. Dave Scott was live at the Wildlife Center to witness the blessing.

While the Rancho Coastal Humane Society has participated in a number of Blessing of the Animals events during the last 58 years, this is the first time that their San Diego Wildlife Center will be included. One witness said that the blessings are done to cleanse negative energy from a space and foster the well-being of nearby animals. After blessing the Wildlife Center, the group of monks opened up the ceremony to the community and encouraged individuals to bring their pets by for blessing.

According to Wildlife Center director Trish Jackman, the seven Tibetan monks responsible for the blessing ceremony came all the way from India. They are touring the United States as part of their Sacred Arts of Tibet Tour, intended to raise funds for the Gaden Shartse Monastic University. The monks are scheduled to be in the area through the 20th.
