Animal Services teams with Humane Society to care for evacuated animals

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – As flames from the “Valley” fire chase people from their homes, residents also worry about the safety of their animals. Over the last few days, the Humane Society has joined forces with the county’s Department of Animal Services to ensure that animals are taken out of harm’s way.

An emergency shelter for smaller animals was opened in Bonita.

An evacuation site for horses and other large animals is operating at the Iron Oak Canyon Ranch in Spring Valley.

On Tuesday, the Humane Society and the county began its emergency operations at a third site at the Lakeside Rodeo area, which is reserved for horses only.

If you need help with your pets or livestock, you can call the county’s Animal Services hot line at (619) 236-2341 . That help line is staffed 24 hours a day.
