Annual Lincoln-Reagan dinner held in San Diego for local Republican candidates

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The annual Lincoln-Reagan dinner was held at the Hilton Bayfront San Diego Saturday night, billed as a fundraiser for Republican candidates running for office in San Diego County. The party expected to break a new fundraising record of approximately $400,000 during the event, according to Chairman Tony Krvaric. About a dozen awards will be handed out throughout the night.

Rising Republican voice U.S. Senator Mike Lee of Utah gave the keynote address at the party.

Rebecca Friedrichs will receive the Torch of Freedom Award during the gathering. She is the plaintiff in a free-speech case the U.S. Supreme Court is holding. Friedrichs sued the California Teachers Association after being forced to pay union dues that were partially used for the union’s political activities. She argued that being forced to pay the dues was a free-speech violation.

Over 750 attendees from California are expected at the event, according to Krvaric.

"This is the annual event, the Lincoln-Reagan dinner, where Republicans get together," Krvaric said of the importance of this annual event. "We plot and scheme and we raise money to make sure we have lots of Republican victories."
