Memorial held for CHP officer killed in suspected DUI crash
STOCKTON, Calif.
STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) — A California Highway Patrolman killed by a drunken driving suspect in the San Francisco Bay Area is being remembered as loving family man and a dedicated officer.
Family, friends and colleagues gathered Saturday at a Stockton church to remember 33-year-old Andrew Camilleri. Dozens of law enforcement officers saluted as a procession that included his hearse pulled up to the church.
The father of three died on Christmas Eve when a car rear-ended his stopped SUV on the shoulder of Interstate 880 in Hayward.
The 22-year-old driver of the Cadillac received serious injuries. Authorities suspect he’d been using alcohol and marijuana.
Camilleri had been a CHP officer since March.
