Approximately $610,000 worth of meth seized by border patrol
SAN ONOFRE (KUSI) – Officers allegedly found 15 gallons of liquid methamphetamine inside a Mexican national man's SUV at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint Wednesday.
The man, 45, stopped at the San Onofre-area Interstate 5 checkpoint at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, he was driving a 2003 Lincoln Navigator.
He had a work visa, according to USBP public affairs.
The agents directed the man to a secondary inspection are to check for documentation that would allow him to travel further than 25 miles into the country.
A service dog alerted the agents to contraband in the SUV, when officers searched the vehicle they found three water cooler-style plastic bottles all filled with methamphetamine in solution form. The estimated street value totaled out to approximately $610,000 worth, authorities said.
The suspect was turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Border Patrol seized his vehicle.
