Armed man arrested after leading authorities on pursuit in Santee
SANTEE (KUSI) – An armed suspect who led authorities on a high-speed chase that ended in a multi-vehicle crash involving law enforcement vehicles in the unincorporated Lakeside area near Santee was behind bars Wednesday, authorities said.
Deputies were called to the 9600 block of Marilla Drive, south of Woodside Avenue, about 4:25 p.m. Tuesday in response to a report of a man in a vehicle holding a gun, according to Sgt. Amber Reeves of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
As deputies pulled up to the scene, the suspect, identified as Shawn Orr, 24, drove away at a high rate of speed and a pursuit began. Orr drove through a stop sign and crashed into a vehicle and kept going, Reeves said.
Orr then suddenly stopped his vehicle in the middle of Lakeshore Drive, causing the pursuing deputies to crash into one another and the suspect’s vehicle, Reeves said.
Orr was taken into custody and a gun, ammunition and drugs were found inside the vehicle, she said.
The driver of the vehicle Orr crashed into was treated at the scene by medical staff. No other injuries were reported.
Orr was booked into San Diego Central Jail and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
