Armed robbery at Oceanside bank turns into police standoff

OCEANSIDE (KUSI) – A Wells Fargo bank in Oceanside became completely surrounded by police Monday, after an armed suspect attempted to rob the North County bank along the 3400 block of Marron Road at approximately 11:00 a.m.

According to Lt. Leonard Cosby, the robber, who claimed to have a weapon and ignored orders to surrender, was inside the bank with several employees when officers arrived. Some employees were able to escape but others remained in the building, behind bulletproof plexiglass.

The police standoff lasted for 90 minutes before the suspect gave up peaceably and surrendered, walking out of the bank, shirtless and with his hands in the air.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released.

No injuries were reported.
