Arraignment scheduled for Chula Vista driver who eluded police

CHULA VISTA (KUSI) – A man on probation who refused to pull over during a traffic stop, and instead led police on a chase, was scheduled to be arraigned Friday.

26-year-old Lawrence Ray Johnson was taken into custody early Wednesday afternoon under suspicion of felony violation of probation, felony evasion of police and misdemeanor possession of cannabis, according to police records.

On Wednesday morning, an officer attempted to pull Johnson over for a traffic violation while he was driving his 2006 Ford F150 in Chula Vista. Instead of stopping, authorities say, Johnson took off, leading police on a chase on the 15 freeway and State Route 54, often reaching speeds around 100 mph.

Upon reaching Jamacha Boulevard, Johnson exited the vehicle and was able to elude police. However, he and the passenger in his truck were identified by a witness after matching them to descriptions given by authorities.
