Ashlie Rodriguez is an award-winning journalist back in her hometown.
The native San Diegan attended Mount Miguel High, graduating from San Diego State University with degrees in Political Science and Journalism.
She started her career as a print journalist, cutting her teeth at outlets such as the San Diego Union-Tribune, Voice of San Diego, the Los Angeles Times and National Journal Magazine in Washington D.C.. She took the dive into television news in Great Falls, Montana, working as general assignment reporter and multimedia journalist at KFBB ABC-5.
From there, Ashlie worked as an anchor/reporter in El Paso, Texas at KVIA ABC-7. Reporting in El Paso, Ashlie covered the county’s school districts, earning a Texas Associated Press Broadcasting award for Best Specialty/ Beat Reporting. The Texas State Teachers Association also honored her with the School Bell Award for excellence in reporting.
Ashlie was also honored by Texas Associated Press Broadcasting for Best Reporter and Best Anchor.
Ashlie is excited to be back in a city she describes as “paradise.”
“To work at San Diego’s local station KUSI is a blessing,” Rodriguez said. “It’s an honor to be able to keep my friends, family and neighbors informed on what’s happening in our city, as well as looking out for their best interest. You can count on me to follow your tax dollars, hold public officials accountable, keep an eye on your safety, and let you know about events and changes that can impact you and your family.”
You’ll usually find her riding a bike on the Misson-Pacific Beach boardwalk, hiking Cowles Mountain or enjoying our city’s delicious Mexican food and beautiful scenery.
Watch Ashlie report live during the week at 5, 6,10 and 11 p.m. She anchors with David Davis weekend nights at 6, 10 and 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
