Assemblymember Randy Voepel writes letter opposing placement of SVP
BORREGO SPRINGS (KUSI) – California State Assemblyman Randy Voepel, representing the 71st District, joined KUSI’s Elizabeth Alvarez on Good Morning San Diego to discuss his letter to Judge David M. Gill regarding the placement of sexually violent predator Merle Wakefield in his district.
Assemblyman Voepel explained during the interview that the majority of San Diego County’s sexually violent predators were being dumped in rural East County.
In the letter, Voepel notes the lack of constant monitoring, law enforcement capabilities, and mental health services in Borrego Springs, making the case that the area would not make a suitable placement for a sexually violent predator.
Wakefield is currently proposed for a home at 1575 Yaqui Road in Borrego Springs.
