Athletic Brewing non-alcoholic brewery finds home in San Diego

Fifteen months ago Athletic Brewing made the decision to open a facility in the craft beer capitol of the United States, San Diego. For co-founder Bill Shufelt the decision to base here in San Diego was a no brainer. He knew that they were seeing 10% of their sales here in California. So why non-alcoholic beer you might ask?

When Bill Shufelt decided to get healthier and cut back on alcohol, he sought out a flavorful beer to fit his lifestyle. He soon realized that didn’t exist in the market. In 2017, with a community of like-minded individuals, Bill started Athletic Brewing, the first U.S. based beverage company devoted exclusively to brewing high-quality, nonalcoholic craft beer.  today, the nonalcoholic beer category is the fastest-growing segment of the entire beer industry – with Athletic Brewing Company at the helm having grown 500% year-over-year and representing over 45% of the category. In fact last month they shipped out about 100,000 cases.

They have three flagship styles, two IPA’s, but have created upwards of 30 different styles including a new one out this summer named Rainbow Wall for ‘Pride Month’. Athletic will donate all net profits from Rainbow Wall to Athlete Ally, a non-profit whose mission is to foster equal access, opportunity, and experience in sports for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
