Authorities search for driver suspected of hitting bicyclist in Encinitas
ENCINITAS (KUSI) – Authorities were searching Monday for the driver of a white S-U-V that struck a bicyclist in Encinitas and sped off Sunday morning.
The hit-and-run collision happened at 6:45 a.m. on eastbound Leucadia Boulevard, when a white SUV swerved into the dedicated bike lane, hit the bicyclist and kept on going eastbound, Deputy Michael Power said.
The 41-year-old man on the bike was still conscious when he was taken by ambulance to Scripps La Jolla hospital with serious injuries to his leg, face and lower back, Power said. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
No suspect information was available this afternoon and the investigation was ongoing, according to Power.
The collision was being investigated by the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station Traffic Division.
