Authorities search for identity theft suspect dressed in camo

ENCINITAS (KUSI) — Authorities were asking the public’s help Wednesday in locating a man believed to have stolen a vehicle and committing identity theft in Encinitas.

The man was suspected of stealing a Kia rental near the San Elijo Campground in Encinitas around 11:30 a.m. Monday and taking several items from the vehicle before abandoning it a short while later, according to San Diego Sheriff’s Department.

Missing from the vehicle were two surfboards, an iPad, cash and credit cards, which had accumulated over $3,000 in fraudulent charges at various location in Encinitas, sheriff’s said.

The suspect was described as a white male between 35- and 45-years-old, around 6 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds, sheriff’s said. The man was fully dressed in camouflage, was missing one shoe and wore a flip-flop on the other, and walked with a limp, sheriff’s said. 

He was last seen driving a blue Hyundai Tucson with yellow paper plates in the license plate holders.
