Autism Awareness month
April is Autism Awareness month.
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurological-based condition with no single known cause that affects individuals in different ways and can range from mild to severe.
Children have difficulties communicating and interacting with others. They also may have repetitive behaviors and difficulty engaging in pretend or imaginary play.
At Rady Children’s, they do a comprehensive developmental evaluation that included cognitive, language, and motor skills testing, as well as specialized play-based testing specifically for autism.
Parents should share their concerns with the child’s pediatrician and ask for a referral for a comprehensive autism evaluation at Rady Children’s Hospital.
KUSI was joined by Dr. Victoria Moore, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Rady Children’s Hospital with more.
