Aztecs headed to Las Vegas bowl
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — San Diego State has accepted an invitation to face Houston in the Las Vegas Bowl Dec. 17, the university announced Monday.
The Las Vegas Bowl has the first selection among Mountain West Conference teams and chose the Aztecs (10-3), who won the championship with a 27-24 victory over Wyoming on Saturday.
This will be San Diego State’s second appearance in the Las Vegas Bowl. The Aztecs lost 20-13 to North Carolina in the 1998 game.
This is the seventh consecutive season San Diego State will be making a bowl appearance, the longest streak in school history.
Houston (9-3) finished third in the American Athletic Conference’s West Division. The Cougars are 4-3 after a 5-0 start which included a season-opening 33-23 victory over Oklahoma, Sept. 3.
The Las Vegas Bowl was to include a team from the Pac-12 Conference, but they conference did not have enough teams with the necessary six victories to provide a team for the game after fulfilling its other bowl commitments.
