Aztecs MBB Head to NYC to face George Washington

The San Diego State men’s basketball team is headed to New York City. After a 72-56 win on Wednesday over Georgia Tech they are heading to the NIT semifinal at Madison Square Garden.

"I just know Madison Square Garden," said guard Trey Kell in reference to his knowledge of the Big Apple.

The team’s last appearance in the NIT was a loss in the semifinals in 2009.

"I think we are better equipped from a talent standpoint. We’re going in this year that we are confident we are the best team. Our goal is not get beat. To play on Thursday and win on Thursday," says coach Steve Fisher.

For the seniors of Chol, Shepard and Spencer this could be their last game or games.

"I’m bringing my game every time because I only have the next game," says senior forward Skylar Spencer.

For the under class men this is an opportunity to gain experience for the future.

"I feel like this run is going to give us motivation. To come out hard from conference to non-conference to post season. Take everything we learned and use it next year because we will all be more experienced," says junior Dakarai Allen.

Regardless of the experience the team is focused on leaving New York with a championship.
