Bail set at $5 million for man who pleaded not guilty to murder charge
VISTA (CNS) – Bail was set at $5 million Monday for a man who pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man in a Carlsbad home last week.
David Diaz, 31, is charged in the Aug. 7 death of Asher C. Freeman, who was killed in a residence in the 3500 block of Sierra Morena about 5:45 p.m.
Diaz, a resident of the home, called police to report the shooting and was later arrested. He was treated for minor hand injuries before he was booked into jail early the next day.
Police did not release a suspected motive for the slaying, nor did they disclose the relationship between Diaz and the victim.
Judge Marshall Hockett scheduled a readiness conference for Aug. 24 and a preliminary hearing for Aug. 26.
