Ballot selfies passed by Senate

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Selfie game strong. The Senate voted Monday to repeal a law that makes it illegal to post photos of marked ballots on social media.

The majority of the Senate veered on the side of supporters, who believe posting photos of how they voted, would allow voters to express their enthusiasm for politics. Opponents to the measure said it violates the principle of a secret ballot that prevents backlash and intimidation.

The repeal passed 31-8. Previously the law was rarely enforced.

Changes to the measure must now be re-approved by the Assembly, who passed it earlier this year.
