Bernie Sanders campaign still owes National City nearly $30,000
NATIONAL CITY (KUSI) — You’ve heard of the dine and dash and now National City says Bernie Sanders did a campaign and dash and the mayor is not happy.
The big unpaid bill is from a rally the former Democratic presidential candidate held back in May.
The Bernie Sanders campaign still owes National City nearly $30,000.
The South Bay city was given a three-day notice to prepare and setup for the Sanders Rally in May. The majority of the fees billed to Sanders are for police overtime pay, fire department inspections and public works.
National City mayor, Ron Morrison said the bill was originally going to be $60,000, but the city was able to work with the campaign and the Secret Service to cut the costs as much as possible.
Mayor Morrison said the city has sent the same bill to the Bernie Sanders Campaign four times.
The campaign responded once, saying it is the Secret Service’s responsibility to pay the bill. The Secret Service says that’s not true.
