Bicyclist, 66, Struck By Vehicle and Killed in San Diego’s Mid-City Area
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A 66-year-old bicyclist was killed after falling off his bike and being run over by a car in the Ridgeview/Webster neighborhood, police said Wednesday.
The collision was reported about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of Fairmount Avenue, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.
The 66-year-old man was riding a mountain bike southbound in the northbound lane when he lost control of the bike and fell to the ground in the left lane of Fairmount Avenue, Buttle said.
A 61-year-old woman driving a 2001 Toyota Camry northbound in the left lane of Fairmount Avenue did not see the man and ran over him, the officer said.
The man, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene, Buttle said.
The Toyota driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, he said.
Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, Buttle said.
Officers from the San Diego Police Department’s traffic division were investigating the crash.
