Bicyclist hit by car in Fairmont Village

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A cyclist was seriously injured when he rode through a red light in the Fairmont Village neighborhood and was hit by a car, police said Friday.

The 35-year-old man was riding his bicycle west in the 4500 block of University Avenue, crossed into the intersection with Chamoune Avenue shortly before 8:30 a.m. Thursday and was struck by a southbound 1996 Volvo driven by a 33-year-old woman, San Diego police Officer Frank Cali said.

The rider was taken to a hospital to be treated for two fractured ankles and a possible brain bleed, Cali said. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
