Bicyclist taken to hospital following collision with vehicle in Chula Vista

CHULA VISTA (KUSI) – Chula Vista Police were on scene of a serious injury accident Wednesday involving a vehicle and a bicyclist at the intersection of Third Avenue and Orange Avenue.

At about 6:10 p.m. a 16-year-old cyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered serious head injuries when he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound Third Ave at the intersection.  

The cyclist was transported to the hospital for treatment.  There were two people in the vehicle.  The driver was not injured.  

The juvenile passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries and cuts from the broken windshield glass and was also transported to the hospital for treatment. The Traffic Division is responding to handle the investigation.  

Currently southbound Third Avenue is closed from between Quintard and Orange.  

Traffic may be impacted in the area for the next few hours.
