Bishop 38, Mater Dei 21

The Mater Dei Crusaders (2-2) made the journey to La Jolla High School to face the Bishop’s Knights (4-0). It was a memorable Senior Night for Bishop’s as the Knights got the win against Mater Dei 38-21.

It was a hard hitting night for both teams. Both sides were fueled with fire and intensity. Starting off the night on a great run for Bishop was none other than Bulla Graft. Graft carried the ball for 33 yards to their own 10, setting up Griffin Seaman 4 yard touchdown pass to Jack Case a couple of plays later. This drive put the Knights up 7-0. Mater Dei responded well as Jarrod Rieta threw a nice 11 yard pass to Quentin Frazier, two point conversion was no good making the score 7-6 Knights to end the first.

The second quarter brought in a picture perfect play for Bishop’s. A Seaman lateral pass to Mozes Mooney who then threw for 25 yards to Bulla Graft in the end zone put the Knights up 14-6. Mater Dei was not giving up, their running back C.J. Verdell was charging his way down the field, until a Rieta interception by Bishop’s Case ran it back for a 55 yard touchdown. Knights up 21-6 at the end of the half.

Overall, the game against these two D4 teams was a great match up. This game challenged the Knight’s and gave the Crusaders a competitive challenge.
