Body found behind sporting-goods store in Midway district

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The body of a 47-year-old male was found Thursday at a Midway-area strip mall.

According to San Diego police Lt. Mike Hastings, they got a call of an altercation behind a business in the 3500 block of Sports Area Boulevard about 9:30 a.m.

Shortly after officers arrived, one of the men "went into medical distress,” the lieutenant said. The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene, despite lifesaving efforts on the part of the patrol personnel and paramedics.

There were no immediate arrests.

"Investigators are interviewing witnesses to ascertain what occurred prior to the physical altercation,” Hastings said. "An autopsy is scheduled in the next few days to determine the decedent’s cause of death.”
