Coroner: Remains those of missing nursing student

Police say forensic pathologists will determine the cause of death for a 26-year-old nursing student whose badly decomposed body was found over the weekend in a rugged San Francisco Bay area canyon.

Hayward police said that tests on the remains confirmed they were those of 26-year-old Michelle Le.

Police suspect Le's former friend, 27-year-old Giselle Esteban, of Union City, attacked Le in the parking garage of the hospital where she was doing a clinical rotation.

Hayward Police Lt. Roger Keener told KTVU-TV that the discovery of Le's body likely helps Alameda County prosecutors in their case against Esteban. She did not enter a plea when she appeared on court again on Monday.

Le family spokeswoman Krystine Dinh said in an email on Monday that grieving loved ones are preparing “a proper goodbye” for Le.
