Bonita Valley Community Church turkey giveaway

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – This week, a number of local churches and service groups are giving some families a hand with the holiday feast, and what is Thanksgiving with out the big bird?

Short of coming over and actually cooking the main course, San Diegans made it their mission to deliver the turkey to those in need.

Every year, when this holiday rolls around, San Diegans show they understand the meaning of giving.

In Chula Vista, Melda got her turkey, and so did 1,000 other families at a Thanksgiving giveaway.

It was hosted by South Bay Community Services, and State Senator Ben Hueso.

One of those Turkeys will be on Vivian Lopez’ table. The mother of three who recently lost her job.

There were more fresh turkeys being sent to Thanksgiving tables tanks to the generosity of a church in Bonita.

The Bonita Valley Community Church purchased $5,000 dollars worth of turkeys, pies and rolls.

Members of the congregation also pitched in, and went shopping for the yams, stuffing and other treats fit for a holiday feast.

This is the third year the church has organized the turkey giveaway. Some people waited in the church parking lot all day.

Pastor Jeff Brawner had no trouble finding volunteers. Some parents even brought along their kids.

Pastor Brawner said “The happiest people are generous people.”
