Border Patrol agents find people in car at checkpoint

PINE VALLEY, Calif.- U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested two U.S. citizens at the Interstate 8 checkpoint Saturday for human smuggling.

At approximately 2:00 p.m., Border Patrol agents encountered a 2014 gray Kia Forte with a male driver and female passenger. A K-9 team conducted a cursory sniff of the car resulting in a positive alert.

Agents searched the vehicle and discovered two illegal aliens hidden in the car’s trunk. Additionally, agents found $680 dollars of counterfeit currency in the center console and in a purse on the floor board.

Both subjects were arrested and face Federal charges. The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol and the counterfeit currency was turned over to the United States Secret Service.
