Borrego Springs crash sends family of three to the hospital
BORREGO SPRINGS (CNS) – A father and his infant, who were injured in a one-vehicle crash on State Route 78 in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Saturday, were released from the hospital Sunday, while the mother remained hospitalized.
A couple and their three children were in a vehicle that crashed on Route 78 about a mile west of Borrego Springs Road at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser said.
CHP deputies requested the aid of Mercy Air about 12:15 p.m., and the infant and one of the parents were flown in two helicopters to hospitals, Bortisser said.
The father and the infant were released from the hospital today while the mother remained hospitalized at Sharp Memorial Hospital, Bortisser said. The condition of the two children was not disclosed.
The crash was about 40 miles east of Julian and 10 miles southeast of Borrego Springs. It closed Route 78 in both directions for about an hour Saturday as CHP officers prepared for the medical helicopters to land, a CHP dispatcher said.
The first helicopter landed about 12:50 p.m. and the second landed about 1:25 p.m., CHP officers told a dispatcher. The highway was reopened about 1:50 p.m.
