Boy discharged from hospital after heart transplant

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – San Diego’s first pediatric heart transplant recipient finally headed home from the hospital on Tuesday.

Eleven-year-old Eric Montano was discharged from Rady Children’s Hospital, and is doing well with a brand new heart.

Doctors said Eric should be able to go back to school in a few months and even resume playing sports in the summer.

Eric said he couldn’t wait to start playing, and the hospital team gave him a red soccer ball.
