Brief law enforcement pursuit in Otay Mesa ends in injury crash

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A motorist who refused to yield for a traffic stop in Otay Mesa Monday led deputies on a brief pursuit that ended when he got into a crash that left him and his two passengers seriously injured, authorities reported.

The road chase began about 2:15 p.m. and ended several minutes later, when the fleeing driver’s truck plowed into a tractor-trailer at Camino Maquiladora and Pacific Rim Court, near Brown Field Municipal Airport, sheriff’s Lt. Dave Perkins said.

Emergency crews freed the three occupants of the crumpled pickup from the wreckage, after which medics took them to a hospital, the most badly hurt one via air ambulance.

One of the men appeared to be so badly hurt he might not survive, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Battalion Chief Dan Eddy told reporters.
