Brief pursuit ends in carjacking suspect’s arrest

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A brief pursuit in Spring Valley in search of a carjacking suspect ended with an arrest Friday, authorities said.

At about 10:30 p.m. a man was carjacked at gunpoint while walking to his parked car near Camp Road and SR-94, said sheriff Sgt. Pat McEvoy.

The suspect drove off in the man’s car, a Toyota Tundra, and was spotted near Cuyamaca College in Rancho San Diego.

Police attempted to pull the suspect over but were unsuccessful, leading to a pursuit, McEvoy said. The pursuit headed westbound on SR-94 into Spring Valley when the suspected exited the highway on Avocado Boulevard and ran from the vehicle.

Police searched the area and arrested a man who matched the suspect’s description and had possible evidence linking him to the carjacking, McEvoy said. Detectives are investigating the incident to determine if others may be involved.

The name of the suspect has not been released.
