A brush fire in Clairemont Mesa temporarily threatens homes before contained

CLAIREMONT MESA (KUSI) – A brush fire that started burning Sunday in Rose Canyon, near Interstate 5, temporarily threatened homes in Clairemont Mesa before firefighters managed to contain it, authorities said.

The brushfire was reported about 5 p.m. on a hillside behind homes in the 2700 block of Ariane Drive, according to the San Diego Fire Department, a dangerous 900 yards away from residential areas.

The fire burned about an acre of brush and was fully contained in less than an hour, according to the San Diego Fire Department Battalion Chief. 

No injuries have been reported and no homes we damaged. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
