Temecula brush fire burns along Interstate 15, forces lane closures

TEMECULA (KUSI) —  4:40 p.m. — Firefighters continue working to contain a fire burning alongside Interstate 15. The fire forced closures along the highway, and officials released an updated trajectory for both northbound and southbound lanes. 

The two left lanes on southbound I-15 have been opened, but the two right lanes will remain closed through the remainder of Saturday. The right lane is closed on northbound I-15, but the three left lanes are open. 

1:37 p.m. — A brush fire tearing through vegetation along the shoulder of southbound Interstate 15 has forced authorities to shut down traffic both ways on the highway at Rainbow Valley Road. 200 firefighters are working to contain a 30-acre brush fire.

The blaze began shortly before noon south of Temecula Pkwy. and was initially called a 15-acre fire. The flames spread quickly, however.

Fire crews have also been working to contain a wildfire in Pala. Officials lifted the evacuation order that was put into effect Friday.
