Brush fire threatens Santee neighborhood

SANTEE (CNS) – A brush fire blackened about a dozen open acres near an East County neighborhood Tuesday, causing no reported structural damage but sending a resident to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The blaze off Carlton Hills Boulevard in Santee was reported shortly before 3 p.m., according to Heartland Fire & Rescue.

It took ground crews and personnel aboard two firefighting helicopters about 90 minutes to get the flames and all hot spots extinguished, a dispatcher said. The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
