Cal Fire reinstates burn permits for San Diego County

EL CAJON (KUSI) — Burn permits for San Diego County residents will be available from Cal Fire beginning Monday morning.

They were suspended in June due to unsafe conditions.

San Diego Unit Chief Tony Mecham formally cancelled the burn permit suspension beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, saying anyone who has a current and valid agriculture and residential burn permit can resume burning on permissible days.

"While cooler temperatures have helped to diminish the threat of wildfire, we are still in our fifth year of a drought," Mecham said. "Always use caution when burning, follow all guidelines provided and maintain control of the fire at all times."

Burn permits will be required until the end of peak fire season.
