California Chrome racing in SD Handicap & Pacific Classic

DEL MAR (KUSI) — Friday is opening day at Del Mar and a big star is already strutting his stuff.

California Chrome is not only here, he’s going to be racing twice.

California Chrome is now the biggest moneymaker in the history of American horse racing, $12 million and counting.

Not bad for a horse that cost $10,000.

Whatever happens at Del Mar this season, California Chrome will be a highlight, still winning races and drawing the crowds.

After all, he did win the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness.

Now, Trainer Art Sherman is looking at one more big, fat paycheck before calling it a day.

When they bought this horse, the owners called their stable the, "Dumb Ass Partners," and very few gave them a chance.

With $12 million and counting, they’re not so dumb after all.
