California to pay $2M in church legal fees over COVID closures

CHULA VISTA (KUSI) – Gov. Gavin Newsom and California have agreed to pay more in lockdown discrimination settlements against houses of worship.

Bishop Art Hodges, Senior Pastor of South Bay Pentecostal Church, joined KUSI’s Jason Austell to further discuss the settlements.

His congregation was the first to be ruled on by the U.S. Supreme Court and the last, Bishop Hodges declared.

All of the money will go to the attorneys to pay for churches’ legal fees.

South Bay Pentecostal Church’s settlement reached 1.6 million, which to date is the largest settlement fee concerning houses of worship, Bishop Hodges proudly noted.

Nothing can replace being in the house of God and amongst God’s people, Bishop Art Hodges said.
