California tribal casinos must gather 1 million signatures to approve sports betting
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Local tribes are collecting signatures in the hopes of getting approval for sports betting at California tribal casinos. They need to collect 1 million valid signatures in order to put the proposal on the November ballot.
The initiative aims to make sports betting legal in California for the first time ever, but have it based out of the private casinos or the private horse racetracks in California.
It was proposed by a coalition of 18 Native American led by the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians.
Those behind the California proposals seek to join a national wave as some three dozen states have legalized sports betting or are considering it.
