Camp Pendleton officials release name of Marine found dead on base
CAMP PENDLETON (KUSI) – 4:30 p.m. – Officials released the name Tuesday of the Marine found dead at Marksmanship Training Range 214 on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton early Monday morning.
Lance Cpl. Dominic E. Schraft, 19, of Vienna, Missouri assigned to 1st Marine Division was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head at approximately 6 a.m. Oct. 5.
Schraft was assigned to Battery R, 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. He joined the Marine Corps in August 2014 and served as a field radio operator.
Schraft never deployed during his career in the Marine Corps.
His awards include the National Defense Service medal and Global War on Terrorism Service medal.
This incident is currently under investigation, no further details are available at this time.
10/5/2015 – Camp Pendleton confirmed the death of a young Marine, who was found dead early Monday morning.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Marine was from the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force and was found with a gunshot wound to his head at a marksmanship range.
Officials said the Marine was part of a training exercise in which live ammunition was used.
The circumstances of the fatal gunshot are under investigation. No cause has been released.
The Marine’s name will be withheld until 24 hours after his family is notified, officials said.
