Candlelight vigil held in honor of murdered student; search continues for suspect
Sadness and anger over the murder of a City College student spilled onto the campus Thursday night as a candlelight vigil was held in honor of Diana Gonzalez, highlighting the deadly consequences of domestic violence.
Domestic violence is what Gonzalez's family says ended up killing the 19-year-old student. Her situation was apparently known by law enforcement, but the family says not enough was done to prevent her untimely death.
Meanwhile, the search for the South Bay man suspected of murdering Gonzalez focused on Baja California, where his car was found abandoned.
Tijuana authorities came across the blue 1999 Ford Mustang belonging to 37-year-old Armando Gabriel Perez, Gonzalez's estranged husband, about a half-mile south of the U.S. border on Wednesday night, according to San Diego police, who took custody of the sedan as evidence in the slaying.
