Candlelight vigil to be held in Balboa Park for Trayvon Martin
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A rally, march and candlelight vigil to honor a
Florida boy shot to death by a neighborhood watch volunteer will be held in
downtown San Diego Monday.
The Justice for Trayvon Martin Rally and March is set to begin at 5 p.m.
in Balboa Park.
At 6 p.m., participants are expected to march to the federal building at
880 Front St., where the rally will resume and a candlelight vigil will be
held at 7 p.m.
Martin, 17, was killed on Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla., by George Zimmerman,
who admitted to the shooting but told police he fired in self-defense.
Sanford police said physical evidence from the scene supported his claim, and
he was not arrested.
However, both a Florida state task force and the U.S. Justice Department
are now looking into the incident.
