Crash, car fire shuts down Interstate 5 connector
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – First responders were on the scene Saturday after a single-vehicle accident that landed a car 20 feet down a ravine and on fire near the Interstate 8 and Interstate 5 connector.
The accident closed the westbound Interstate 8 ramp that connects to the southbound Interstate 5.
The accident was reported at 10:40 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol, which said multiple calls came in from witnesses in passing vehicles.
According to the CHP, the vehicle was traveling on the connector to southbound Interstate 5, when the silver SUV rolled over and landed in a ravine.
The vehicle was on fire with smoke coming from the engine, the CHP said. An ambulance responded to the major-injury crash but it was not immediately known how many people were injured.
