Car chase begins in Orange County, ends in Kearny Mesa

KEARNY MESA (CNS) – An early-morning chase by police of a suspected car thief that began in Orange County ended minutes later in Kearny Mesa when a spike strip was used, the CHP said.

The incident began about 4:15 a.m. near San Onofre with Orange County sheriff’s giving chase to a 1990 Honda Accord suspected of having been stolen by a solo occupant, CHP media information officer Mary Bailey said.

The pursuit was handed over to the CHP in Carlsbad when the vehicle continued southbound on Interstate 805 at the merge, Bailey said.

Bailey said the suspect, who was not identified, was taken into custody without incident shortly before 5 a.m. when the vehicle was incapacitated by the spike strip.

No one was injured.
