Hello neighbor: car careens into south bay backyard

OTAY MESA WEST – A car reportedly containing two passengers took a tumble into a backyard in the south bay this afternoon.

According to witnesses, the driver of the sedan was taking two young people home while driving down Del Sol Boulevard, when he went up on the curb, smashed through a fire hydrant, and then through a fence, crashing down a hillside and into a backyard.

No injuries were reported. Neighbors reported seeing the two passengers flee the vehicle, though they were reportedly nowhere to be found.

“The neighbors say that they saw two people running out of the car before the driver,” says homeowner Israel Martinez. “So that was like the big question, but when I got here, I didn't saw that.”

“This is my nana's car,” says Kyle Anderson, an observer at the scene who identified himself as the roommate of the driver. “I called and asked for a ride home, and they sent him to come and pick me up. But like I said, 30 minutes went by, I called him, and after a while he called back and said, hey, I got in a car accident dude.”

The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
