Car veers off Hwy 94 and hits palm tree, killing driver

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – An investigation was under way Friday into a traffic
accident in which a man drove off state Route 94 and into a palm tree, killing
himself and injuring his female passenger.

The accident near F Street and Glendale Avenue in the Golden Hill area
of San Diego was reported at 7:38 p.m. Thursday, according to the California
Highway Patrol.

The man, who was traveling west in a white Acura Integra, rolled the car
onto its top before striking the tree, the San Diego County Medical
Examiner's Office reported. He died at the scene.

Paramedics took the man's injured passenger to an area hospital after
extricating her from the mangled car, according to San Diego fire-rescue.

San Diego police said the man, who was part of a caravan, veered off the
road after two vehicles in front of him were involved in a rear-ending
accident. The other two vehicles were also part of the caravan.
