Carl DeMaio and presidents of Escondido and Ramona school districts launch petition to suspend AB 5

ESCONDIDO (KUSI) – Carl DeMaio, former Republican candidate for California’s 50th Congressional District and current chairman of Reform California, will hold a news conference along with the presidents of the Escondido and Ramona school districts to announce they are launching a petition calling on Governor Gavin Newsom to suspend AB-5 because schools have been shut down during the coronavirus pandemic.

AB 5 was authored by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher and co-authored by San Diego Mayoral candidate Todd Gloria.

They say under AB-5, parents who hire tutors to work at home would have to pay them as employees, not independent contractors.
