Carlsbad desalination plant

CARLSBAD – A desalination treatment plant that turns ocean water into drinkable water is located on the coast of Carlsbad, and it’s the biggest of its kind in the Western Hemisphere.

San Diego is about to become a world leader in taking ocean water and turning it into drinking water.

Thanks to the cutting edge plant in Carlsbad, the future is here, and after 14 years, a group called Poseidon Water is very close to making magic come true.

It is a one billion dollar project, but the purified sea water is going to cost a little more.

Reverse osmosis will make it possible to drink ocean water, but it is a complicated process with many steps to remove the salt from the water.

More than 250,000 homes will benefit from the plant. That’s 50 million gallons a day.

Since the world is 75% ocean, chances are pretty good that this water source won’t be running out anytime soon.
