Carlsbad girl killed in New York boating hit-and-run

LAKE GEORGE, NY — A 9-year-old girl from Carlsbad died after a hit-and-run boating accident in upstate New York.

Charlotte McCue and her mother were in a boat at Lake George — 60 miles north of Albany — when a second boat crashed into the side of the McCue’s boat and jumped over top of it, according to Sheriff Bud York of the Warren County Sheriff’s Dept. The boat collided directly in the middle of McCue’s boat, where the mother and child were sitting.

“It’s perplexing. It’s upsetting,” York said. “Put yourself in that family’s state of mind…what’s the reason? That’s for us to figure out, and we will figure it out.”

Deputies later identified the driver of the other boat as Alexander West. West has been tested for drugs and alcohol, according to police. They are waiting for the results before they file charges.
