Cathedral 35, Mira Mesa 3

Cathedral Catholic gave Mira Mesa a fright with a 35-3 Halloween win.

The victory wraps up the Eastern League title for the Dons, and sends them into the playoffs with a 9-1 regular season record. Cathedral entered the week with a tight lead over Helix and Oceanside for the number one spot in Division I, and will certainly earn one of the top positions in the Open Division bracket.

Adam Eastwood set up the Dons’ first score with a 26-yard scamper down the Marauder one-yard line, and Clayton Dale punched it in on a quarterback sneak. Dale then found Kai Walter for a 20-yard strike to make it 14-0 at the quarter pole.

The Marauders rallied in the second quarter, as they kept the Dons off the scoreboard and added a 37-yard Zack Hurley field goal with under a minute left in the half.

But Cathedral pulled away in the third quarter, as Hogan Irwin ran one in from 12 yards out and Dale added another score on a 27-yard connection with Courtney Richardson. Carter Hamilton tacked on a 47-yard touchdown run in the fourth, to push the final margin to 35-3.

The Dons have an off week to prepare for the upcoming playoffs, while the Marauders head to 3-6 Scripps Ranch for a final chance to pick up an Eastern League win.
